Christy Carlson Romano is updating fans on her injury since being shot in the eye on Friday, Feb. 7 while shooting clay pigeons for husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
On Feb. 11, the former child star posted a video on Instagram from her recent visit with Dr. Sean Paul — an oculoplastic surgeon in Austin, Texas. Romano’s right eye was bruised and swollen, but she was thankful that the bullet missed her eyeball, nerves and muscles — by less than 1 millimeter.
“It is a miracle. 🙏” Romano,40, wrote in the caption. “The shot was less than 1mm from permanently blinding me. @drseanpaul also explained that the shot missed all the vital parts of my eye by moving around them like a marble hugging the curve of a bowl (it’s an anomaly).”
“The lead fragment must remain in place, as surgically removing it could leave me blind,” she said. “I should fully recover with no issues at all, though I may never be able to get an MRI again.”
Romano explained that the shot fragment in her forehead is actually lodged in her skull and doctors have decided to leave it there in order to “accelerate the healing process.” She added that she’ll be monitored over the next few weeks and keep her followers updated on her recovery.
“I am very sore and tired, but I am resting and healing up well.” she said. “I appreciate all of your support and the support of my husband, children, and family. More to come ❤️.”
Romano also posted a photo on her Instagram Stories sitting in the hospital bed after her accident and sticking up her middle finger. Surrounding the image, she included screenshots from social media trolls who commented negatively on her injuries.

Romano revealed that she was shot in the eye on Friday, Feb. 7, while shooting clay pigeons in Texas as part of husband Brendan Rooney’s “present” this year.
In a video on Instagram, the Disney alum showed where the bullet struck her eye, revealing that a fragment is still stuck in her eye, along with another that is lodged in her forehead.
She shared that she was shot by “another party” who “unsafely fired in the wrong direction,” she wrote in the caption before thanking first responders and medical staff for their help.
Romano also expressed how “grateful” she is to have survived the incident.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,” the star wrote. “I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant. 🙏.”
