“Both of them have been on TV since they were in [Christina’s] belly,” Tarek tells PEOPLE exclusively of Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9
Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack’s kids have a unique version of home videos.
Ahead of the premiere of their new show The Flip Off, the HGTV stars revealed to PEOPLE exclusively how their kids reacted to them reuniting for another series. The exes originally starred on Flip or Flop together from 2013 until 2022, including several seasons filmed after their 2016 split.
Christina, 41, jokes daughter Taylor,14, and son Brayden, 9, “really don’t care” that much about their parents’ fame right now. But she’s happy they’ll have The Flip Off to watch back in the future and see their parents getting along, despite their dramatic divorce and often contentious relationship in the years after.
“Imagine getting to look back and watch your parents and yourself grow up,” Christina says.
“How cute is that?” Tarek, 43, adds. “Both of them, they’ve been on TV since they were in her belly.”
Tarek’s current wife Heather Rae El Moussa stars in the upcoming series as well, and notes that her 1-year-old son Tristan, whom she shares with Tarek, has also only known life in front of the cameras.
“They’re so great on camera, too,” Heather, 37, gushes. “It’s just part of their lives.”
When The Flip Off was announced in May 2024, Christina was teamed up with her then-husband Josh Hall, who was her teammate in the house-flipping competition against Tarek and Heather. However, Josh filed for divorce shortly after filming began, and it was all documented on the series premiere.
When asked how she decided to be open about her personal challenges and continue with the show, Christina says the relationship had been rocky for a while.
“I kind of knew it was going to happen,” she reveals, saying of Tarek and Heather, “I’d been talking to both of them about it. They were aware that there were issues and it’s something that we had to sidebar on in regards to how all of us were going to handle even filming with Josh because there was already some difficulty there.”
“So they weren’t surprised,” she adds. “And they were also very, very supportive.”
While the Flip Off sees Taylor and Brayden’s three co-parents getting along, it also touches on how the kids were impacted by the unpleasant end to Christina and Josh’s relationship.
In an exclusive first look at The Flip Off shared by PEOPLE in December, Christina tells Tarek, “The kids literally asked me to leave. They told me he’s not nice to me. Why would I stick around?”
Speaking to PEOPLE on Jan. 28, Tarek notes that it was “important” to him and Heather to be there for Christina, especially because her relationship with Josh had been affecting the kids.
“Her well-being is very important to us. Not just because of her, but because of the kids too. So ultimately, we are all family, and it’s hard to see her go through a challenging situation,” Tarek said. “In the end, it just wasn’t a good place for her or the kids. So I think they’re all in a better place now.”
The Flip Off airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV.
