Anna Kendrick Sidesteps Question About Another Simple Favor Costar Blake Lively’s Legal Drama: ‘Why, What Happened?’

Anna Kendrick isn’t commenting on her costar Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni.

At the Friday, March 7 premiere of Another Simple Favor at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, Kendrick sidestepped a question seemingly about the It Ends with Us costars’ dispute.

“How does it feel like the movie is being impacted kind of by everything happening around going on in the world?” a Variety reporter asked her on the red carpet.

Kendrick, 39, had a pointedly puzzled look and replied, “Why, what happened?”

“I did Ayahuasca in the last year of my life is just gone, but I’ve heard the movie is amazing,” she added.

Kendrick’s response was in tandem with Lively’s first movie premiere since her legal battle with her It Ends with Us director/costar, Baldoni.

Lively, 37, and Baldoni, 41, are currently in the middle of a highly publicized legal battle. Lively first sued Baldoni in December, accusing him and others of sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign, which he denies. Baldoni countersued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds and their publicist in January, alleging defamation and extortion.

Since the ongoing legal battle, Lively has made very few public appearances, though she and Reynolds attended the Saturday Night Live‘s star-studded SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Sunday, Feb. 16.

She then joined Kendrick and Another Simple Favor director Paul Feig at SXSW. The trio’s reunion follows the 2018 film A Simple Favor.

The new film follows Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) as they “head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.”

“Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square,” the synopsis adds.

Feig also spoke to PEOPLE at the premiere, and said reuniting was Kendrick and Lively was “too much fun.”

“I mean, I had such a great experience on the first one. It always kind of stuck with me. God, I love working with the two of them, as well as the rest of the cast,” he exclusively told PEOPLE.

When the stars shared the film’s first poster on Instagram Feb. 4, many in the comment section brought up Lively and Baldoni’s court battle. Some also questioned why Lively’s name is listed higher than Kendrick’s in the poster’s design.

The following week, a source told PEOPLE that Kendrick is “not used to being caught up in any drama.”

“The comments on Instagram have upset her, especially the ones saying fans are now refusing to watch the movie because they don’t want to support Blake,” added the insider.

A separate source told PEOPLE, however, there “really is no drama or rift” between Kendrick and Lively.

Another insider said, “There is no feud. The film is in the early stages of planning what press will look like, and Blake and Anna will be doing some things together.”
