The seasoned actor is currently working on a film project with Tom Cruise, though production has been temporarily halted due to his injury.

John Goodman, 72, was recently hospitalized after an incident at Pinewood Studios, Bucks, while filming a movie in the United Kingdom. He reportedly fell while blocking a scene, but his injury was not related to a stunt.

A Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed, “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury. He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

Despite the delay, production is moving forward. The film — working title “Judy”— stars Tom Cruise, as a powerful figure trying to save humanity. Directed by Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, it has been filming for nearly two months and is set for an October 2026 release.

Iñárritu, known for his award-winning work, earned back-to-back Best Director Oscars for “Birdman” and “The Revenant.” With “Judy” in production for nearly two months, expectations were high for its potential recognition during awards season.

With industry recognition already in sight, “Judy” also features a strong ensemble cast. Joining Goodman and Cruise are Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.

The film marks Cruise’s return to Warner Bros. Discovery after signing a development and production deal in January — his first project with the studio since “Edge of Tomorrow” a decade ago.

The action movie star’s return to Warner Bros. follows a series of major projects. He recently appeared in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Top Gun: Maverick.”

His upcoming films include the eighth “Mission: Impossible” installment for Paramount and a Universal action film directed by Doug Liman, where he will become “the first civilian to do a spacewalk” outside the International Space Station.

As Cruise prepares for his upcoming projects, Goodman’s hospitalization has drawn attention for another reason. His collaboration with his co-star follows concerns from fans over his significant weight loss in 2024.

Goodman’s weight loss has been a topic of discussion, with fans reacting to his transformation over the years. In April 2024, the “Roseanne” star revealed a dramatic 200-pound weight loss, sparking both concern and admiration.

He was spotted at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York alongside his wife, Anna Beth, dressed casually in a dark green sweatshirt, khaki pants, and Hoka sneakers.

While some praised his commitment to a healthier lifestyle, others speculated about how he lost the weight. One person expressed“I love him any way he comes as long as he feels good,” while another noted“That’s the scary part. The ‘looking deflated’ part. It’s healthier though.” Meanwhile, one fan said“Glad he’s taking care of himself.”

Online discussions debated whether he used medical interventions, with one individual assuming, “It’s called Ozempic” and another counterclaimed, “He stopped drinking. It wasn’t Ozempic.”

Some remarked that Goodman appeared significantly smaller, while others expressed concern, saying he looked unrecognizable, unwell, and noticeably older.

The Emmy Award winning actor’s transformation is the result of long-term lifestyle changes that began in 2007 when he quit drinking. His Mediterranean-style diet emphasizes fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit.

He also follows a rigorous fitness routine, walking up to 12,000 steps daily on an elliptical and treadmill while incorporating boxing and dog walks. He once joked that boxing was great for fitness, though he avoided sparring.

His decision to get sober came after realizing his drinking problem had become unsustainable. Despite continued work in Hollywood, visible signs of alcoholism — including red cheeks and slurred speech — prompted a change.

A weekend of heavy drinking left him shaking, making it clear he needed help. He turned to his wife, describing it as “like turning myself in to the Gestapo.” She arranged for him to enter a treatment center, where he detoxed and discovered he enjoyed being sober.

Before his Hollywood success, Goodman endured tough times. Arriving in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s with just $1,000 and no job prospects, he navigated a rough neighborhood filled with poverty and drug use.

His living conditions were challenging, with communal bathrooms and a bathtub in the kitchen. Fellow actor Bruce Willis, then a bartender, provided some relief from the struggles. Goodman once joked about how bringing women back to his apartment was far from glamorous, “It wasn’t exactly Hef’s mansion.”

Now, after nearly sixteen years of sobriety, the veteran star is in the best shape of his life. Fans continue to show support, inspired by his transformation and dedication to health.

This isn’t the first time his weight loss has made headlines. In 2016, he revealed that he had once weighed close to 400 pounds and struggled with yo-yo dieting.

Determined to make a lasting change, the Hollywood star took a slower, more sustainable approach, explaining, “Then, this time, I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”

His commitment to a healthier lifestyle not only transformed his appearance but also improved his energy levels, making work less exhausting. The decision to lose weight became final when he could no longer stand seeing his reflection in the mirror.

To maintain his progress, Goodman worked with personal trainer Mackie Shilstone, who combined structured workouts with a Mediterranean diet.

Shilstone emphasized that the TV star’s transformation was a gradual process, requiring consistency rather than quick fixes. The actor exercised six days a week and walked between 10,000 and 20,000 steps daily.

Goodman’s journey has been one of transformation, discipline, and perseverance. From overcoming alcoholism to adopting a healthier lifestyle, his commitment to long-term well-being has reshaped both his life and career.

While his recent hospitalization raised concerns, his determination in the face of setbacks demonstrates his dedication to maintaining his health.

As he continues forward, Goodman remains focused on sustaining the progress he has made. His story serves as an inspiring reminder that lasting change is possible with persistence, self-care, and the willingness to embrace a healthier way of life.
