Morgan Freeman rang in the new year with Al Green.

The Oscar winner spent Dec. 31 at his Mississippi bar Ground Zero Blues Club, where he got up on stage with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member to perform a duet rendition of Green’s 1971 signature song, “Let’s Stay Together.”

Surrounded by several instrumentalists, Freeman sported a white turtleneck sweater and dark jacket alongside Green in a white button-down shirt and green patterned blazer as they sang the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping hit, according to footage shared to social media.

“I’m so in love with you / Whatever you want to do / Is alright with me / ‘Cause you make me feel so brand new / And I want to spend my life with you,” the two stars sang, grooving to the beat with massive smiles on their faces.

Freeman posted photos from the performance to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “We ushered in the New Year with Al Green and Kingfish at Ground Zero last night. Happy New Year, everyone!”

CNN’s Oscar Jimenez shared a video of the moment to his Instagram page, writing in the post’s caption, “Morgan Freeman got on stage to make his ‘dream come true.’ He said it was to sing with Al Green.”

Ground Zero Blues Club was opened in 2001 by co-owners Freeman, Eric Meier, Howard Stovall and the late Bill Luckett, according to the venue’s website, “to celebrate the area’s rich blues heritage and to provide a venue in which it can continue.”

Freeman, who made another rare public appearance at the Los Angeles restaurant Georgio Baldi in November, appeared in the films My Dead Friend Zoe and Gunner as well as the series Special Ops: Lioness in 2024.

“It was a great pleasure presenting my friend, Clint Eastwood, with the inaugural Clint Eastwood Award for Cultural Leadership at the @MontereyJazzFestival last weekend,” he wrote on Instagram.

Freeman continued at the time, “Clint is a true musician: pianist, composer and a jazz aficionado! We had a wonderful time listening to the incredible music of Kyle Eastwood and Mavis Staples!”
