A British woman and her South African fiancé have been found dead at a villa in Vietnam, according to reports.

Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Quinton Els, 36, had been staying at the Hoi An Silverbell villa in Hội An before staff found them dead in separate rooms when they came to clean the property on Thursday, Dec. 26, according to U.K. newspaper The Times.

Otteson was found in her bed in room 101, while her fiancé Els was discovered in room 201, per the outlet.

The pair’s bodies were found at approximately 11:18 a.m. local time, according to Vietnam News and The Guardian. Several empty alcohol bottles had reportedly been found at the scene, per Vietnam News.

“There were no signs of ransacking at the scene. The victims’ belongings and phones were untouched,” The Times reported, citing a provincial police spokesman.

The Hoi An Silverbell villa did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Quảng Nam Provincial police confirmed an investigation was underway following the death of the couple, who were said to have “registered for long-term temporary residence” at the villa starting from July 4, 2024, per Vietnam News.

The outlet stated that “initial findings showed no signs of scratches or external force on the bodies.”

A spokesperson for the U.K.’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities.”

According to Otteson’s Facebook profile, she was the founder and social media manager of a company called Not Sorry Socials, while Els had jobs including as a stand-up comedian, per his Facebook page.

In a video posted on the Red Eye Studios YouTube page in December 2024, the couple — who Els said had met in the Middle East before moving to Vietnam — spoke about their engagement as they prepared to surprise family and friends with the news.

“We’re just two people from opposite ends of the world, living in Asia, doing it together, which is quite precious,” Els said in the video.
