Ben Affleck Says It’s ‘Not Easy Figuring Out Relationships’ as He Makes Comment About Flirting Following Jennifer Lopez Divorce

Ben Affleck is sharing how it can be hard to figure things out at the start of a relationship.

While speaking at a recent press junket for his latest movie The Accountant 2, Affleck, 52, discussed his character Christian Wolff wanting to date, but having a bit of a tough time doing so.

Affleck said in a clip shared by Page Six, “That was one of the fun things about this thing. The idea that, here’s a guy who’s trying to figure out — he wants to have a relationship with a woman, he’s trying to figure out how to do that, like, how to put yourself out there.”

“You know, he’s not comfortable extending himself. He doesn’t really know how to flirt exactly. He’s not comfortable, like so many of us,” the Air star continued, per the outlet.

“It’s not easy for anyone figuring out relationships, particularly at the very early part, where you’re trying to gauge, ‘What does this signal mean? Is this person looking at me? Do they like me? Am I going to humiliate myself if I go over there?’ ” Affleck added, stating that his character ends up putting himself out there by taking a woman line-dancing, which makes him feel “comfortable.”

“I probably am not going to get a lot more demands for my line-dancing work,” he joked. “I don’t know. The phone hasn’t rung yet.”

Affleck, who was speaking during the junket alongside his The Accountant 2 co-star Jon Bernthal and director Gavin O’Connor, is reprising his role as Christian in the movie, nine years after the first one premiered in 2016.

According to Amazon MGM Studios’ official logline for The Accountant 2, the film will follow Christian, who is brought out of hiding by treasury agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) after Ray King, the director of the treasury department’s financial crimes bureau, is killed by unknown assassins.

Christian recruits his “estranged and highly lethal brother” Braxton to help solve the case, and they “uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.”

Affleck’s comments about his character’s dating experience come after he broke his silence on his breakup from his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez in a recent GQ interview.

He told the outlet that “there’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” behind his split from the Atlas star, whom he was married to from July 2022 until she filed for divorce in August 2024. (They finalized the divorce in January and were officially declared single on Feb. 21.)

Affleck said in the GQ interview that his “life is actually pretty drama free” and that he holds “nothing but respect” for Lopez, 55.

“I guess there’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something,” he told the publication. “But honestly, like I said, the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

Before tying the knot with Lopez, Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 until they announced their split in 2015. They finalized their divorce in 2018. The former couple share kids Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13, together.
