A plane crashed in an upstate New York field with six people on board.
On Saturday, April 12, the twin-engine turboprop Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft was heading toward Columbia County Airport in Hudson when it crashed in a field near the town of Copake at around 12:15 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed in a post on X that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has not yet shared the number of fatalities or the identities of those who were onboard at the time of the crash.
“We estimate the investigation will take a couple of days,” Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore said in a press conference, per local outlet News 10.
“Right now, notification has not been made, so we cannot release names,” the officer added.
When asked specifically about the number of fatalities, Salvatore responded that the number is currently “unknown.”

Salvatore also said during the press conference that the muddy condition where the plane crashed has made accessing the scene difficult.
The NTSB said updates will be shared during a media briefing that is set to be held on the afternoon of Sunday, April 13.
