A vehicle crashed into pedestrians after the Philadelphia Eagles’ win against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Jan. 26, according to police
Multiple people were left injured after a car drove into pedestrians following a football game in Philadelphia.
A vehicle crashed into a crowd at an intersection at Broad and Spring Garden on Sunday, Jan. 26, the Philadelphia Police Department said in a statement.
“The driver of the vehicle is in custody,” the police wrote on X. They added that the incident “does not appear intentional at this time.”
The car drove into a crowd of fans near Center City at around 9:30 p.m. as they left the Philadelphia Eagles winning NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field, the Associated Press, 6ABC and NBC News reported.
Three people so far are reported to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, per AP.
The silver Mercedes that struck pedestrians was located by police in the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue following the collision, 6ABC reported.
According to the outlet, a helicopter was seen flying over the area where the incident took place as police investigated the car and suspect involved.
Video footage released by NBC Philadelphia showed a large crowd walking along Broad Street while celebrating the Eagles’ win against the Washington Commanders and their advance to the Super Bowl.
Traffic was temporarily blocked from entering the streets surrounding Center City and Broad Street on Sunday night to accommodate for fans celebrating the Eagles victory.
“Temporary road closures in effect along Broad Street, Cottman and Frankford Avenues, and other locations in the city for crowd gatherings. Follow public safety instruction. Use caution traveling and be aware of pedestrians,” the Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management and Fire Department wrote on X.
