Bush Hager is a mom of three while Guthrie is a proud parent of two

Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie are proud godparents to each other’s children.
On the latest episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, the former first daughter, 43, and the journalist, 53, spoke about Guthrie’s newly released children’s book Mostly What God Does is Love You. During the conversation, Bush Hager and Guthrie broke down in tears as the host shared how proud she was of her goddaughter and Guthrie’s journey as a parent to daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 8.
“I want to weep because I’ve known Vale-y every day since she was born, many of us have, but also I’m so lucky to be her godmother,” Bush Hager said. “I’m so proud of her because everything you’ve given to them, all of your faith that you’ve passed down so gently, without preaching, without demanding, are in those little kids and when the world feels dark, that is hope.”

Bush Hager first revealed that the author was the godmother of her son Hal, 5, during an Instagram Live with E!‘s Jason Kennedy in 2020. The mom of three opened up about her close relationship with Guthrie and her importance in her family’s life.
“I’ve never said this before, but Savannah is Hal’s godmother,” said the morning news anchor, who welcomed her son in August 2019 with husband Henry Hager. The married couple also share daughters, Poppy, 9, and Mila, 11, together.
“Savannah and I go to the same church,” Bush Hager continued, stressing the importance of their shared religion to their friendship: “Our faith is really important.”

On the Wednesday, Feb. 19 episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, Bush Hager spoke with Monica Lewinsky, 51, about one of the things she’s the most concerned about as a mom of three. She noted she’s worried her kids won’t be able to learn from failure as she thinks failing helps build her character.
“It’s actually my biggest concern as a mom is I don’t think our kids are allowed to fail,” Bush Hager said. “And I failed publicly and it’s actually what makes me, I feel like, my superpower.”
“I feel brave because you can come out of something,” she said. “We need to teach kids that they can come out of things.”
