Queen Elizabeth’s Godson Dies After Suffering Severe Head Injury

Lord Charles O’Hagen, one of the late Queen’s many godchildren, died on March 23 at age 79

Lord Charles O’Hagen, godson of the late Queen Elizabeth, died on March 23 after suffering a severe head injury, Hello! reports. He was 79.

O’Hagen – full name Charles Towneley Strachey O’Hagan – was an Eton and Oxford graduate and the grandson of British politician Maurice Towneley-O’Hagan, 3rd Baron O’Hagan. He served as a Member of the European Parliament for Devon twice, from 1973-75. and from 1979-94.

The late Queen became O’Hagen’s godmother when she was still Princess Elizabeth and before she was a mother herself. As a boy, he served as a Page of Honour to her following her coronation in 1953. He held the ceremonial role from 1959-62.

Queen Elizabeth had 30 godchildren throughout her 96-year life, including her nephew, David Armstrong-Jones, the only son of her sister, Princess Margaret.

O’Hagen was married three times. He was wed to Georgian Princess Tamara Imeretinsky from 1967-1984. Then came a 10-marriage to Mary Claire Roose-Francis, to whom he was wed from 1985-95. Following the end of their marriage,” O’Hagen married Elizabeth Lesley Eve Smith in 1995.

Queen Elizabeth died on Sept. 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. One of the most enduring figures in modern history, her time on the throne spanned 14 U.S. presidencies and 15 British Prime Ministers.

After ascending the throne following the death of her father, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth went on to reign for 70 years and 214 days — the longest of any British monarch.
