After reconciling earlier this year, the 78-year-old singer’s son drew attention when an old photo resurfaced — just as his wife filed for divorce again.

On April 8, People reported that Elijah Blue Allman, Cher and Gregg Allman’s son, is facing a new divorce filing from his estranged wife, Marieangela King, who cited irreconcilable differences. But the legal news wasn’t the only thing that caught public attention.

photo shared alongside the report sparked even more reactions online. “Is it me or is this the first time we’ve ever seen a picture of him,” one netizen asked.

Another chimed in“Wait. Cher has more then one child. Im lost. Did I forget? 🙄 [sic].” Someone else expressed surprise upon learning that the singer has a son. A fourth remarked“I had forgotten Cher had another child.” Another noted, “He looks so much like his dad.”

In the filing, Marieangela requested $6,000 monthly in spousal support and asked to keep their 2017 Toyota Prius. If Allman retains the car, she wants a $2,000 one-time payment and an extra $500 monthly. She also asked the court to have him cover her legal fees.

According to court documents, the couple tied the knot in 2013 and officially separated on March 31, 2025.

“We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish. I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart,” Marieangela said, adding that they hope to handle this next chapter privately and appreciate the public’s understanding.

Online reactions ranged from lighthearted to critical. One critic typed“Out of all the things to want….a Prius?!” A second exclaimed“Not the Prius!” while another commented“Should of listen to Cher [sic]!” Some questioned the financial details behind the filing. “I doubt he makes that much, what she wants is his dead dad’s money,” one wrote.

Another claimed, “She used him like a ATM. And didn’t help him get off drugs. His mother CHER tried to legally take charge of his finances to stop him from causing life issues that might have been detrimental. And tried to get him in rehab. He refused her help [sic].”

That sentiment reflects a series of recent legal moves involving Cher and her son. On January 3, USA Today reported that Elijah had asked the court to dismiss his ongoing divorce case. His attorney requested the Los Angeles Superior Court to withdraw the case without prejudice.

A representative for Marieangela confirmed, “The couple have been working on their marriage and have reconciled.” Elijah’s request to dismiss the divorce came more than two years after he initially filed for it against Marieangela on November 15, 2021, following their separation in April 2020.

Despite the reconciliation, tensions within the family remained. In December 2024, Cher filed a petition seeking a conservatorship over her son. According to court documents obtained by USA Today, she expressed concern over his ability to manage his finances due to what she described as “severe mental health and substance abuse issues.”

The filing emphasized the potential risk of Elijah receiving funds from a trust set up by his late father.

It stated, “Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from a trust established by his father for his benefit, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, Petitioner (Cher) is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk.”

Cher’s filing also stated that she had “worked tirelessly” to support her son’s recovery. The documents alleged, “[Cher] is informed and believes that Angela is not supportive of Elijah’s recovery and that Angela actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs.”

Cher claimed that Marieangela once attempted to remove Elijah from a treatment center.

Years before the legal filings, Cher and Elijah’s relationship had already faced public scrutiny. In 2016, the Daily Mail reported that Elijah secretly married Marieangela in a private ceremony after Cher allegedly ignored their engagement.

He described their decision to elope as a continuation of the independent path he had always taken. “I wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval and congratulations just like I’ve never waited for any of that my whole life,” he said.

Elijah explained further, “The way I eloped with my wife is the same way I’ve done everything I’ve ever done. I don’t know any other way and we knew it was the right time.”

Reflecting on his strained connection with his mother, Elijah acknowledged that their relationship had long been difficult, shaped by clashing values and differing outlooks. He described it as unstable, with frequent ups and downs, and noted they were not on speaking terms then,

At the time, he said, “She knows that I’m married, my entire family knows I’m married. Some have congratulated me, some haven’t. My father’s side of the family is very happy for us and is very excited.”

The tension between Elijah and his family also affected their holiday traditions. He once revealed on social media that he and Marieangela had not been invited to Cher’s Malibu home for Christmas.

Elijah admitted that missing the holiday gathering was personally painful, as he had always placed special value on celebrating the occasion with family.

The couple had previously lived at Cher’s Malibu home but moved out following rising tensions. Elijah suggested his mother struggled with the idea of him starting a life of his own, “Those feelings come up for any mother that their son’s being lost to another woman, no matter who that woman is.”

He also spoke candidly about the pressures of celebrity households, “Superstars are a difficult and unique breed. You have to be superficial to be a mega celebrity, you have to be… but who you are behind closed doors is really up you, there’s no cameras there [sic].”

Despite their history of conflict, Elijah recognized that Cher had made genuine attempts to support him over the years. He acknowledged the complexity of their relationship and the emotional weight it carries for both of them.

While their issues remained unresolved, he expressed a sincere hope that, with time, they would eventually find a way to heal and rebuild their connection.
