Justin and Hailey Bieber are a united force — even as rumors continue to swirl about the state of their marriage and the state of Justin’s mental health.
After a busy stretch for the couple that included multiple Coachella outings and a number of vulnerable social media posts from Justin, both of which have sparked concern, a source close to Justin and Hailey tells PEOPLE that the pair are trying to tune out the noise.
“Justin is having fun, vibing out and yes, he smokes weed like everyone else. But everything he does is being weaponized against him,” the source says.
On April 18, Justin raised eyebrows after he was filmed smoking what appeared to be marijuana while standing next to his 15-year-old brother Jaxon in the crowd at Coachella. His sister Jazmyn, 16, also attended the festival with Justin, 31, and Hailey, 28. On Monday, April 21, the “Peaches” singer shared several of Jazmyn’s posts from the event to his own Instagram Stories, including a sweet video of her dancing with Hailey, with whom Justin shares 7-month-old son Jack Blues.

“It’s not like his son Jack is at these events. And his brother’s a teenager,” the source adds. “Justin’s dad came into town to bring [Jaxon] to Coachella after he saw how much fun Justin and Hailey had the first weekend. Look on his socials, he had an amazing time. They’re just tired of people turning everything into something bad.”
Justin has ramped up his Instagram posting in recent months, and shared a number of memes and photos from his time at Coachella and beyond. On April 10, he even shared a screenshot of himself appearing to FaceTime Stevie Wonder, writing, “This fool never sees my facetimessss.”
According to the source, Justin has just been having fun — with Hailey’s full support.
“Hailey is not on the verge of wanting a divorce or leaving him. It’s just completely untrue,” the source says. “If anything she’s sad about how hard everyone is being on him now that he finally is coming back out of his shell.”
Still, a second source, this one a Justin source, tells PEOPLE that all is not as rosy as it may appear.
“She’s been in tears about his behavior lately,” the source says. “Things have gotten bad quickly. She’s genuinely scared something bad is going to happen to Justin.”

Those sentiments were echoed in an April 16 report published in The Hollywood Reporter that described the star as “lost,” citing sources, and claimed he was in debt after the cancellation of his 2022 Justice Tour (Justin’s rep disputed the claims in a statement shared with PEOPLE, calling the article “clickbait stupidity”).
“Hailey’s very loyal to him. She’s not walking away, but she knows something has to change,” the second source says. “Her focus is raising Jack in a stable environment. She’s drawn a line around what she’s willing to tolerate. She means the world to Justin. They have quietly weathered more than most couples ever do.”
Justin released his last album, Justice, in 2021, and has been teasing the launch of a new clothing company called Skylrk on his social media, which comes after he cut ties with his previous brand, Drew House.
In March, he shared a message of self-reflection to Instagram, writing, “People told me my whole life ‘wow Justin u deserve that’ and I personally have always felt unworthy. Like I was a fraud, Like when people told me I deserve something, it made me feel sneaky like, Damn if only they knew my thoughts.”
“How judgmental I am, how selfish I really am, they wouldn’t be saying this,” he continued. “I say all this to say. If you feel sneaky welcome to the club. I definitely feel unequipped and unqualified most days.”
