John Mulaney Ruthlessly Mocks Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s CBS Interview on ‘Everybody’s Live’

John Mulaney threw some shade at Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson after that awkward viral interview.

The 42-year-old comedian and late-night show host took aim at the 73-year-old former NFL coach and his 24-year-old girlfriend during the Wednesday, April 30 episode of his Netflix show Everybody’s Live.

Three days after Hudson stepped in from off-camera to shut down questions about their relationship during an April 27 interview with Belichick for CBS Sunday Morning, Mulaney enlisted Everybody’s Live collaborator Richard Kind to spoof the moment.

In the segment, Kind stood behind a podium wearing an outfit similar to the one Belichick selected for his interview, swapping the “NAVY” lettering for the show’s initials. However, his conversation with Mulaney was cut short by a woman named Gerstein, who was introduced as his girlfriend.

“No, we’re not talking about that,” Gerstein said, echoing Hudson.

Mulaney described Gerstein as “a constant presence in our lives.” Meanwhile Gerstein said that she was Kind’s “idea mill and his muse,” adding that she would “need to see a cut” of the “interview” before it was allowed to air.

When Mulaney pointed out that they were live, she replied that everything having to do with Kind was now “pre-taped” and needed approval to make it to air.

“Come on, wouldn’t you give up all your friends for this woman? I would blow up my brand and distance myself from my fans for one moment in her company,” Kind gushed. “To watch her scroll. To wake up and hear her on the phone in the bathroom…”

He went on to say their relationship was “a dream.”

Gerstein also cut Mulaney off when he tried to show photos of the couple that were shared on social media. She claimed the pictures as “private,” prompting to the host to remind her that “they’re on public Instagram.”

Belichick defended Hudson in a statement that he shared earlier on Wednesday.

“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, The Art of Winning — Lessons from My Life in Football. Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book,” he said in the statment, sent via email from his employer, the University of North Carolina.

He continued; “Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book. After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion.”

The football legend noted that his partner “was not deflecting any specific question or topic but simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track.”

However CBS refuted the claims in a statement shared with PEOPLE: “When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview. There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”

After the interview, Belichick’s longtime friend Charles Barkley said that he was getting “concerned” for him.

“From what I’m hearing, it’s starting to be a very slippery slope. And I never talk about people’s personal relationships — that’s another rule I got. But, I will admit, I’m a little concerned with some of the stuff that’s going on. I might actually reach out to him to make sure everything’s good, but I am concerned from what I’m hearing. It’s not a good look, right, I’ll admit that,” he said during an appearance on the Don Patrick Show.

Despite ongoing interest in and judgement of their relationship, an exclusive source told PEOPLE Wednesday that Belichick was not not concerned about the speculation, adding that he’s “never been happier.”
