It’s May! But just because the weather is getting warmer, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still an excuse to curl up on your couch (or head to the theaters!) and binge a new movie or show.
This weekend, May 3-4, we have two exciting movie releases, ranging from a new Marvel movie to a sequel for 2018’s A Simple Favor. Over on Netflix, a series reboot of a beloved ’80s classic hit the streamer, starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell.
On top of series premieres and new movies, a beloved franchise is finding a new home on Netflix — and we guarantee it’ll satisfy your love triangle/fantasy/teen drama needs.
And there’s more! Here’s a list of the eight best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.
Thunderbolts*
Move over Avengers, there are new superheroes in town — and they’re not who you’d expect. Marvel closed out their struggling Phase 5 with a bang with Thunderbolts*, which stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and more as a ragtag group of antiheroes.
In a surprisingly emotional twist, the movie focuses on mental health and not succumbing to one’s own grief. Yes, it’s heavy but it’s also a movie with the most unserious characters in Marvel and they know (and own) it.
And make sure to stay tuned for one of the MCU’s longest post-credit scenes ever … which teases an even bigger surprise (and explains why that pesky asterisk is in the title!).
Another Simple Favor
You can’t keep a bad girl down and Blake Lively is only happy to prove it as she reprises her role as Emily in Another Simple Favor.
After Anna Kendrick‘s Stephanie sent Emily to prison in 2018’s A Simple Favor, the convicted killer is (somehow?) out and up to her nefarious tricks again as she invites Stephanie to her wedding in Capri. Who is she marrying? What is she up to? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
Watch Another Simple Favor on Prime Video.
The Four Seasons
In this remake of the 1981 classic, three couples make a habit of taking a trip together every season, but their vibe is thrown awry when one of them goes through a divorce, leaving the others dealing with the repercussions.
In an all-too-relatable story of what one is to do when their couple friends break up, Fey, Carell, Will Forte, Colman Domingo and more reflect on their friendships and their own relationships — and deal with their whiney teenage kids while they’re at it.
Shadow Force
Kerry Washington has been a lawyer, a troubled mother and a war major, but now she’s a sort of mix of it all as a retired mercenary desperate to protect her family in Shadow Force.
In the movie, Kyrah (Washington) and her husband Isaac (Omar Sy) were once part of an international special forces group called the Shadow Force. It may have been years since they went off the grid, but their bosses haven’t forgotten — and now they have a big bounty on their heads.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 premiere
The dead just keep on walking as The Walking Dead‘s spinoff show, Dead City, returns for season 2 on May 4.
Two years after the first season premiered on AMC, the show is back, following Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they navigate a post-apocalyptic New York City.
Watch The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 premiere on AMC on May 4 at 9 p.m. ET.
Conan O’Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor
Conan O’Brien has some famous friends — and they were ready to show up to celebrate the esteemed comedian.
Coming off his Oscars hosting gig, O’Brien is being awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and to celebrate the momentous occasion, he is, of course, being wildly roasted by his peers from Nikki Glaser to David Letterman.
Watch Conan O’Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Netflix on May 4.
PolyFamily series premiere
TLC isn’t shy about portraying the more unique situations in life, like living with Tourette syndrome or with dwarfism, and now they’re peeling back the curtain on another lifestyle: a polycule.
PolyFamily follows two married couples, Alysia and Tyler and Sean and Taya, who live in a “closed quad,” meaning the two women are also dating the two men, though the men are not dating one another. Together, they have four children, with another on the way.
All five Twilight movies
Yes, you read that right — this isn’t just one movie recommendation, but five as they all landed on Netflix ahead of this weekend!
Now Bella, Edward and Jacob’s twisted romance is readily available for your binging pleasure. Fans may have had to wait 4 years between the premiere of 2008’s Twilight and the conclusion of the saga in 2012, but that’s the OGs’ problem, because you can now watch it all in just one weekend.
