Diane von Furstenberg Shares Shocking Photo of Bruised Face After Fall: 'I'm Owning It'

The famed fashion designer shared on Instagram that she’s “happy it was not worse”

Diane von Furstenberg revealed that she suffered a fall in Los Angeles.

In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday, Feb. 25, the fashion designer, 78, shared a pair of selfies showing a large bruise around one of her eyes.

“Upon arrival in LA, I fell on the pavement and hit my forehead !” she wrote in the caption. “Does not look good for sure but grateful nothing more serious !!! I am owning it, applying lots of arnica gel and happy it was not worse !! Owning it is the secret of survival !”

The designer’s followers, including some celebrities, have offered their support and well-wishes on the post.

“Oh Diane!!!! I’m so glad not worse. Love you!!!!” Tracee Ellis Ross commented.

Singer Jewel wrote, “You poor thing! I had a dog once jump up as I was going down to pet it- broke my orbital bone and gave me the worst black eye! But all you can do is own it! ❤️❤️‍🩹”

In 2024, von Furstenberg celebrated 50 years of her iconic wrap dress and premiered her documentary, Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.

“I didn’t know when I made that little dress that it was going to be a social phenomenon and that people would be buying it 50 years later,” she told PEOPLE in June of the famous design.

“I made the wrap dress, but really the wrap dress made me. It just happened. I owe her as much as she owes me,” continued the author and philanthropist.

The designer reclaimed control of her DFV brand in August 2024 after four years under Chinese licensee Glamel. At the time, it was also announced that von Furstenberg would bring on fashion executive Graziano di Boni to aid in the transition.

“I’m taking back the control of the business right now, so you will see a lot of exciting things starting next year,” von Furstenberg told PEOPLE in October 2024 at the opening of her “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman Before Fashion” exhibition in Los Angeles.

“It took me all the COVID years,” she continued. “I was making an inventory of what it is and what the vocabulary is, and then I rehired the best people I had. And we’re starting in February.”
