David Beckham‘s underwear campaign led to an awkward family moment.
The former English soccer player, 49, told Deadline that his mother-in-law admitted she and her friends were “zooming in” on the photos for his new ad for underwear brand Hugo Boss. The campaign launched Thursday, Jan. 30, marking the new Boss One Bodywear collection.
Beckham revealed that his mother-in-law told him that she “could see everything” when she zoomed in on his photos.
“I was like, ‘Well don’t zoom in then,’ ” he recalled of the “embarrassing” moment.
The campaign was directed by fashion photographers Mert and Marcus, and sees Beckham sporting two pairs of briefs, one black and one white, both with “BOSS” written across the waistband.

The photos, like the underwear, keep to a minimalist aesthetic and allow the garments to speak for themselves. In the first photo, Beckham wears a black pair and poses against a dark gray background, while another with the same backdrop, sees him lounging against the wall in more of a full-body shot. Beckham even uses water as a prop in one snap as he stands under a shower in the black pair of boxers.
Beckham then switched up both the background and the underwear, lounging on a black leather chair in an empty, sunlit room — this time in the white briefs.
To prepare for the shoot, Beckham admitted he cut out “good food and wine” and trained for 14 weeks, per Deadline.
The day the campaign launched, Beckham’s wife Victoria shared one of his photos to Instagram. The fashion designer simply captioned the shot, depicting her husband from the neck down, “My boss🖤😉.”
The new Hugo Boss collection contains “premium-quality men’s underwear essentials, including trunks, briefs, tank tops and T-shirts in minimalist black and white hues,” per a release, and are made from cotton and elastane.

“I once said that my bodywear modeling days had come to an end, but when Boss shared their ambition for the range and brought in my good friends Mert and Marcus to shoot the campaign with their brilliant creative ideas I simply couldn’t refuse,” David said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
“The new Boss One collection is beautifully made,” Beckham added. “I’m proud to support Boss in our long-term strategic partnership with this campaign.”
