“I was there and I am still crying watching this,” Ariana Grande’s mother Joan wrote in reaction to videos of her daughter and mother watching ‘Wicked’ together

Ariana Grande enlisted her boyfriend Ethan Slater to capture a special moment with Ariana’s grandmother Marjorie Grande.
The Wicked star, 31, recently shared multiple photos to her Instagram Stories and one video showing her and her brother Frankie Grande sitting with their grandmother, whom they affectionately call “nonna,” as they watched Ariana’s acclaimed performance in the movie musical at a movie theater in Boca Raton, Florida. Ariana sweetly credited Slater for capturing the family moment.
“Flew to boca for a day to watch with Nonna at the movie theater I grew up going to every weekend, Cinemark 20 in Boca,” Ariana wrote in a caption to one photo, tagging Slater, 32, and Frankie, 41, in the post.
“Thrilled to report that when the sugar glider had her drum solo nonna exclaimed loudly ‘oh I LOVE that’ @jonmchu,” she added in a caption to the second photo, again crediting Slater as the photographer.
The video Ariana shared showed her grandmother smiling during her granddaughter’s standout number, “Popular,” as the family all held hands.
“Oh my OZ, I was there and I am still crying watching this!!” Ariana and Frankie’s mother, Joan Grande, wrote in a comment in response to Ariana’s video.
Ariana’s grandmother Marjorie is the matriarch of the Grande family. Ariana shared a video on YouTube all the way back in 2012 revealing that Marjorie and her grandfather, Frank, first met when Marjorie was 11 years old. Ariana’s grandparents began dating as teenagers and eventually welcomed two daughters, including Ariana and Frankie’s mother Joan.

Marjorie has accompanied Ariana to awards shows and red carpet events throughout Ariana’s career, including as her guest to the 2014 VMAs and the 2015 American Music Awards. Marjorie even appeared as a featured artist on Ariana’s 2024 album Eternal Sunshine on its final track “ordinary things,” which officially made Marjorie the oldest person ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 back in March.

Ariana and Slater began dating some time after meeting each other when they began production on Wicked. In the movie, he portrays Boq, one of Ariana’s character Glinda’s classmates at Shiz University.
“He’s always adorable, and he’s so amazing in this film, he’s such an amazing person, I’m so happy people are getting to know him,” the actress and singer said of Slater during a Nov. 9 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “My heart is very happy.”
