She’s been seen beside him in photos — sometimes handing out meals at a children’s charity, other times waving from the stands at a ball game. But when Brigitte Poublon spoke out recently, it wasn’t about their usual community work. It was something far more personal.

Known to longtime fans as Bobby Sherman’s second wife, Brigitte Poublon has quietly built a name for herself in the nonprofit world. For years, she has led education and nutrition efforts for children in need, particularly in Africa.

Her public role took on new weight when she announced that Sherman had been diagnosed with cancer. The message, shared on social media, shocked fans who hadn’t seen the former teen idol in the spotlight for years.

Even before that moment, Poublon had already become a steady presence in Sherman’s life — not just as a partner but as the driving force behind his legacy of service.

A Philanthropist Beyond the Spotlight

Poublon has led a life of purpose, most notably as founder of the Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation (BBSCF). Since 2011, the nonprofit has focused on supporting students in Ghana through education, nutrition, and music — a mission that closely reflects her values in her public efforts and everyday actions.

Her social media offers regular glimpses into those values: a deep love for the Los Angeles Rams and Dodgers, a soft spot for animals, and a visible dedication to her foundation’s work. It’s one of the places where her personal passions and public role align.

During a visit to Ghana in February 2025, Poublon partook in the foundation’s Community Food Project, sharing photos of herself distributing meals to schoolchildren. In one image, she crouched beside a group of children in uniform, handing out food with the help of local volunteers at a rural school.

In March 2025, Poublon shared photos from a school trip with foundation students and staff at Aqua Safari Resort in Ghana. The day included a boat ride and a mini-safari, showing her continued hands-on involvement in the foundation’s activities.

Poublon also uses the foundation’s platform to share messages during holidays. In an Easter post, she highlighted her Christian faith by sharing a Bible verse and encouraging followers to “Rejoice in hope this Easter season.” The message reflected the same positive and faith-driven tone seen throughout the foundation’s outreach.

These glimpses into her daily work show how deeply invested she is — not only in the foundation’s mission but in shaping the meaningful life she and Sherman chose together.

A Life Shared with Bobby Sherman

Poublon married Sherman in 2011. Though their marriage remained mostly out of the spotlight, glimpses of their personal life have occasionally surfaced — often joyful and warm. In a 2018 Facebook Live Q&A, Sherman and Poublon appeared together at a kitchen counter, engaging with a group of curious children.

Sherman, dressed in a blue-and-white striped shirt, answered questions with his usual charm, sharing that his favorite childhood singer was Ricky Nelson and he preferred a hamburger over other options.

Poublon, wearing a sleeveless dress in bold red, white, and black, responded with warmth and enthusiasm. When asked about holidays, she cheerfully named Christmas her favorite, explaining that she loves to go all out with decorations, gift-giving, and baking — just as she does for other celebrations like Halloween.

In 2019, Poublon shared her excitement about a musical reunion of sorts. She announced that she and Sherman would be attending a Beach Boys concert featuring John Stamos at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California — a nod to Sherman’s early days performing on “Shindig!” alongside the legendary band.

These candid, playful interactions offer a rare glimpse into a partnership built on mutual respect and shared purpose — a quiet fulfillment that has defined Sherman’s life in recent years.

Brigitte Poublon’s Husband Went from Heartthrob to Hero

Before his life with Poublon, Sherman rose to fame as one of the defining teen idols of the late 1960s and early ’70s. His breakout role as Jeremy Bolt on “Here Come the Brides” made him a television fixture, and hits like “Little Woman,” “Julie, Do Ya Love Me,” and “Easy Come, Easy Go” dominated the charts.

Between 1969 and 1971, he earned seven Top 40 singles, seven gold records, one platinum single, and five gold albums.

At the peak of his career, Sherman toured nonstop, performing for crowds of screaming fans — a level of intensity that led to partial hearing loss. Despite the toll, he looked back on that period with appreciation. “God bless the fans,” he said. “They made me a teen idol, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

By the 1980s, Sherman had stepped away from show business and taken on a new role: emergency medical technician. He later joined the Los Angeles Police Department as a Reserve Officer and served with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, earning Reserve Officer of the Year in 1999.

“I made a decision to give myself a break and do stuff I wanted to do,” he once told the Los Angeles Times. Fame occasionally followed him into the field. On one call, a woman regained consciousness and immediately recognized him. “It turns into a kind of placebo effect,” he recalled. “It works every time.”

This pivot from entertainment to emergency response reshaped Sherman’s life. It gave him a renewed purpose that defined the man he became — one whose values would eventually be mirrored in a new relationship.

The Actor’s Life Before He Met His Second Wife

Before starting a new chapter with Poublon, Sherman was married to his first wife, Patti Carnel. They married in 1971, had two sons named Christopher and Tyler, and divorced in 1979. In one Tiger Beat interview, Carnel shared how they met.

A friend introduced them, and as a way to break the ice, she pretended to be locked out of her apartment so she could ask to use Sherman’s phone. At the time, she didn’t realize exactly who he was and thought he was the host of “Shindig!” — the music show where Sherman had performed early in his career.

Their first date was simple: just driving around and talking. But that ease and humor defined their relationship. “He’s just so intelligent and has such a good sense of humor that you can’t help but like him,” Carnel said.

She remembered him as thoughtful and respectful. He gave her gifts, brought her home to meet his parents, and even bought her a dress because she admired it in a shop window.

Carnel’s stories portrayed Sherman as romantic and sincere — qualities that remained steady even as his life evolved. In Poublon, he found someone who shared his later-in-life commitment to service and quiet purpose.

Bonding Over Their Love for Baseball

Outside her work in Ghana, Poublon shares her love of sports. In November 2024, following the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series win, she shared photos from the stadium, where she and Sherman celebrated together in team gear.

She described it as a “historic, epic win” and highlighted their long-standing involvement with the team’s community outreach. What seemed like a joyful snapshot of everyday life would soon carry unexpected weight.

A Heartbreaking Update

On March 26, 2025, Poublon shared a personal update on Facebook, announcing that Sherman had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She noted that he had already been retired for some time and was no longer able to participate in cameos, sign autographs, or make public appearances.

“During this challenging time, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy. Thank you so much for still remembering him. We really appreciate it,” she shared.

Grace in the Face of Adversity

Even as Sherman stepped back from public life, Brigitte continued to lead. During the 2024 Thanksgiving season, she hosted BBSCF’s Giving Thanks Celebration alongside Sherman’s family, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at their holiday meal through a foundation video.

In the clip, Poublon explained how she prepared a mix of African and American dishes, including spicy seasoned hens and a pumpkin dessert with cream cheese filling and chocolate ganache. She also mentioned that Sherman helped with the table setup by cutting small wooden decorations by hand, even though it wasn’t easy for him.

During a heartfelt prayer, she gave thanks for the food, the family gathered, and the blessings of each day. She reflected that Thanksgiving wasn’t just a holiday but a mindset she carried daily.

In these ordinary moments — cooking, sharing laughter, and giving thanks — the strength of their bond was unmistakable.

What They Built, What She Carries Forward

Sherman, 81, is no longer on stage or in the public eye. But with Poublon beside him, his legacy endures in every classroom visited, every meal served, and every life touched by the foundation they built together.

Poublon now carries that mission forward. Her strength, visibility, and unwavering commitment have ensured that Sherman’s impact extends well beyond his music and screen roles.

She is not just the woman who revealed his diagnosis. She is the one who continues his purpose.
