Sophie Flay has a good reason for missing her dad Bobby Flay’s work events.
On the Thursday, April 3 episode of Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, the celebrity chef, 60, taste tested a few dishes from the radio show’s on-air crew, including Bobby’s own Italian wedding soup recipe that host Elvis Duran, 60, made. Even though Duran pulled the soup out of the food competition against his co-workers, Bobby rated the dish a 9.2 out of 10.
“I don’t usually like chicken meatballs because it doesn’t have enough fat in it, and fat is flavor and also creates juiciness, but I have to say, these meatballs are very good, and I really like the broth a lot,” Bobby shared, to which Duran confirmed, “My broth is king. There’s a little white wine in there too.”
Also in attendance for the segment was Sophie, 28, who was visiting her dad in New York from Los Angeles. “I have a Bobby’s Burgers at Yankee Stadium, we’ve had it for a few years, and Sophie’s never seen it because she lives in L.A.,” he explained. “So she came in this morning and said, ‘I want to go to the Yankee game because I want to eat burgers at Bobby’s Burgers, so we’re going to do that tonight.”
The proud dad went on to gush about his daughter’s success. Sophie currently works as a news reporter for ABC7 Los Angeles and notably covered the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that sparked in early January. “ABC News, baby!” Bobby exclaimed, jokingly adding, “She’s off the payroll.”
“My dad’s proudest moment,” Sophie said of her dad’s dad joke. When asked about the Beat Bobby Flay host’s new relationship, co-host Danielle Monaro jumped in and said, “[Sophie] did make a comment to me! I said to her, ‘So, do you get to go with him to some of these things?’ And she said, ‘He always has a different date.'”
However, Sophie quickly piped in and corrected, “I said, ‘He always has a date!’”
Emphasizing the singular was truly key as recently, the famed cook has been in the headlines since the news dropped that he and Food Network star Brooke Williamson are in a relationship.

“They have been friends for a while and recently decided to jump in,” a source shared with PEOPLE. “Her divorce last year probably gave them some additional shared experiences and over the last few weeks, love bloomed.”
Though Bobby and the Top Chef season 14 winner worked together on Bobby’s Triple Threat and have been longtime friends, they two didn’t become romantic until Williamson finalized her divorce from Nick Roberts. She and Roberts share a 17-year-old son named Hudson.
Despite replacing Sophie with a regular date partner, the father-daughter duo have a beautiful relationship.
“I got invited to Paris and Sophie was like, ‘Yeah, I’m your plus one,'” the culinary star recalled to PEOPLE during the 2025 South Beach Wine & Food Festival. “She’s worked the Olympics. When she was an intern at USC she worked for NBC, so she went to South Korea and she went to Rio. She considers herself my Olympic expert.”
