Selena Gomez Shares Details About Benny Blanco’s ‘Really Sweet’ Proposal: ‘Right Things Were Said

Selena Gomez isn’t giving too much away about Benny Blanco‘s “really sweet” marriage proposal!

In a new cover story for Interview Magazine, posted on Friday, Feb. 14, the 32-year-old Emilia Pérez star and her music-producer fiancé were asked about the moment Blanco popped the question back in December, before sharing a few smaller details from the relationship milestone.

After revealing what went into the bride-to-be’s engagement ring, Gomez shared that Blanco, 36, “didn’t tell any of my friends” about the ring itself before asking for her hand in marriage. But she remained tight-lipped about the proposal itself.

“That I want to save for our kids,” she told the publication. “It was really sweet and the right things were said.”

Blanco also called the winter proposal — which took place about a year and a half after the pair began dating in June 2023 — the “sickest surprise that [Gomez] had no idea about.”

“It couldn’t have come at a better time because I was starting to f— up. The thing that makes me so crazy is, you’re getting engaged, and right before, they’re like, ‘Show me how good of a liar you are. Sneak around and try to do this perfect thing without me knowing,’ ” Blanco joked.

“At the end, she was starting to get upset because she was like, ‘Why aren’t you coming home tonight?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m just at my friends.’ I almost did it early. But I nailed it, I think.”

“You did,” Gomez confirmed.

Blanco notably popped the question on Dec. 11 during a Taco Bell picnic with Gomez, before she announced their new relationship status later in the day via Instagram. The ring itself featured a marquise diamond set on an eternity band, which fans believed to be a nod to the Gomez’s 2015 single “Good for You.”

“Ever since the ‘Good for You’ days — that was, gosh, so many years ago — that’s the diamond I’ve always dreamed of,” Gomez revealed during the interview.

While Gomez admitted that she wasn’t “anal” about what her ring would look like, Blanco also revealed that his now-fiancée didn’t stick to the same vision of her engagement ring over time.

“She showed me designs and I would always throw little hints. I’d be like, ‘Yeah, but if I ever made one, would you want it like this?’ And then she changed her mind halfway through,” he said.

The first ring featured “huge baguettes” on the side, which he ultimately decided to part ways with since Gomez didn’t “want something that big,” Blanco said. Those additional pieces, however, will later be transformed into earrings, meaning Gomez basically has “three wedding rings,” her fiancé said.

The pair’s latest joint interview comes amid the announcement of their new album, I Said I Love You First, which marks the couple’s first full-length project together. It arrives on March 21, less than two years since they teamed up for Gomez’s track “Single Soon.”

Gomez and Blanco first worked together for two tracks on her 2015 album Revival, “Kill Em with Kindness” and “Same Old Love,” and their creative partnership has extended to 2021’s “I Can’t Get Enough,” alongside Tainy and J Balvin. Their first new song, “Scared of Loving You,” is out now.
